June 21, 2022 Crossing the border leaving El Salvador was very easy. Checking into Honduras was a completely different story. We ran into our first scammer. At the borders there are guys there that will help you get checked in or checked out for you and your car. The guy who helped us check out in El Salvador went very easy. You pay him a $5.00 tip for his service. He then turned us over to his "brother". This guy took all our paperwork and we just waited in the car. He would come and check in with us. So we figured all was fine. He finally finished everything and said we had to pay him $40 US for our health certificate and $85 for car permit. We knew that was not right. Then this really bad storm rolled in with lightning and pour down rain. The 3 of us waited for the storm to pass. Then the 3 of us walked to the building where you get the car permit. Using Google translate I asked the ladies how much was a car permit. It was only $35 US and there was no charge for this health check. Lesson learned. Have them help you but go with them for each step and pay directly to that office.
